In this private yard flies fly in constant little circles. (They continue to do this on hot days too.) I wrote in my notebook: “Draw the flies.” “Draw the insects you see here.” “Draw a grasshopper, draw a bee. Draw a lizard, cricket, cockroach…” “Look upon the insects more and focus”. And I tried to place my focus on what was directly in front of me. From this came the series of the “Private Yard”.
